I jusr responded to Micah's personal message to me. In reality, I doubt we are very far apart.

I wish you only the best, Gordon, with your medical procedures.  Your health must come first.  That will make your attendance even more special, if you are up to it.  I'll be the first to welcome you.

Most all of us do the best we can at any given time, right? If people are able to make it and want to they will.

Good luck with the MRI Gordon.

Good luck with your MRI Gordon, God bless.

Gordon -

I tend to agree with Steve. indecision is action

As for your MRI, I too hope that it turns out okay. Except for the noise it makes, it has no invasive parts to the procedure, unless they are able to do it while doing the surgery. It's what comes afterward - maybe or maybe not, surgery. I will pray that you are okay, and need no surgery. I too, am having to worry about surgery. I am currently waiting on a call back from the referral administrator to see about when my lower back surgery is to take place and where. The local VA has had their surgery rooms shut down because of sterilization problems. If I can, I will ask for the surgery within the next two weeks depending upon which local hospital they want me to go to.. If they cannot refer it out in that amount of time, then I will ask for it to be done soon after the reunion.

As I said in my previous messages, please, please come.

Micah.

Good luck to Gordon and Mike. I have had 17 surgeries and I can't make it through the TSA without alarms going off. I had a right knee replaced plus 4 other knee surgeries, 6 screws in my left foot (a total of 6 foot surgeries), 2 screws in my right radial head and two pins in my left shoulder. I have become an annuity for ortheopedic surgeons. My payback is volunteering at the surgical desk at John Muir Hospital in Walnut Creek, Ca., which I am doing right now.  Whether we like it or not we are wearing out one day at a time. We must cherish each moment and make everyday a masterpiece. See everyone on 7 weeks. Our final committee meeting is this Saturday.  We have had a great time planning this event.

What am I missing? Pulled out the yearbook and found no pictures of Mr. Jeter?? Many speak highly of him

but I don't remember him being one of my teachers. Why no photo in teacher section?

I was wondering if anyone has any info on Mr. Yingst (physics teacher).  Great teacher and also a real gentleman.

With everyone talking about medical procedures I have to speak up.  I just got home from the hospital at 3:00 pm.  I went last Thursday night with a bulging hernia on my lower left abdomen.  They could not operate right away because I am taking Eliquis.  So on Monday morning they finally made the repairs.  So I will be praying for Gordon, I hope everything works out for you

Steve are you trying to catch me with mdeical problems?  You know growing old is not for the week.

Jack,

I had inguinal hernia surgery a number of years ago.  You'll be ready for golf next month--no problem!  Heal well!

Same surgery years ago.  You will recover.  And yes, getting old is not for the weak.

The doctor said about 6 weeks lay off.  The golf outing is 7 weeks, I will be there, with or without a golf game.

No problem.  Worst case, there's a lot to be said for driving the cart and drinking beer with your buddies.

Mike, my wife saw your comment about driving cart and drinking beer.  She thinks all golfers must be alike.

We are alike.  just a bunch of guys that never grew old.

God forbid we should, Mitch. If we can always laugh, that alone will keep us young.

Mitch - Do you have any idea what Coach Hastings middle name or initial was? I have located a number of them still in California. Micah

Micah,  No idea on Coach Hastings middle name.  Sorry.

Well, I finally decided to sign up for the reunion. Time will tell whether or not I get to actually attend.

Meanwhile I am starting to make my plans. A 2000 miles bike ride will be a new experience for me because in the past I have never ridden more than about 1200 miles each way in a single trip. My wife visits her mother in SoCal every couple of years and tells me traffic will be a serious challenge for someone like me who is used to riding/driving 2 lanes or less in each direction. We'll see. I am considering taking the northern route out, the one that goes through Missouri, Kansas, Colorado and starts heading south in Utah then Nevada. I would then take the southern route back, the one that goes through the 4 corners area, Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Missouri and home. Note: The NW corner of Arkansas is a slight side trip but the riding and scenery there is worth the extra 100 miles or so.

I will be riding solo since my wife has obligations on the reunion weekend. She works with a charitable organization that has one of its main fund raisers that weekend and she is serving as the club president this year. It wouldn't do for her to miss it.

Your riding plan sounds awesome and I look forward to getting your recap of this adventure at the reunion.  See you soon!

Karen Riegle (Taillon)

Gordon, so pleased you have signed up and are planning to ride out for the reunion.  A couple of years ago my husband and I did a seven state ride (Goldwing) from SoCal through Arizona, Utah, Idaho, Wyoming, Montana, North Dakota and South Dakota.  Almost made it to Nebraska (7 miles shy) but it was a hot day and we were running late!  Enjoy your ride and stay safe.  Looking forward to meeting you in September.

Gordon, glad to see you are going to make it. We'll see you there. I must add my reiteration of Karen's remarks. Stay safe and enjoy the trip there. Micah

So, just let me say that I have been totally remiss in reading all these posts on the Message Forum.  For some reason I just now found most of them but it has been a beautiful reminder of how much I am looking forward to our reunion weekend and connecting with more new/old friends.  Some names are very familiar - some faces from the yearbook are very familiar - some memories (well, to be honest most) have faded into the distant past BUT it's a party and something very special to look forward to.

Responding to Will's post about Mr. Jeter, if you look at our senior annual, Mr. Jeter's picture on the top of page 19 under Social Studies.  He is the first one just above Mr. Linn (whom I also really liked).  We had so many wonderful teachers who were warm, caring, and inspiring.  I never realized how young so many of them were (e.g., Mr. Reil - Drama - was only 10 years older than us and this was his first teaching job) but they sure impacted our lives.  Iam always reminded that life is not about what we get, but about what we give.  You have all given me much in this forum and in your posts/profiles.  Thank you.

I searched long and hard for Doug Hastings, Mikah,  but never had a middle name to go on. I found about 30 of them in California who were within the age range. I am assuming he was in his late 20's or early 30's when he taught us. He may have left the state as well. Let me know if you can find him. Looking forward to seeing you, and Gordon, so glad that you signed up as well. I think we are all going to have a delightful and memorable weekend.

Linda

John MacAllister (Miller)

Hi --

I am pretty sure he is Douglas Harlan Hastings, born November 19, 1938.  He lived on Pacific Avenue in Anaheim with wife Edy in 1964, and is now in Beaverton, OR.

Since retirement, I have turned a hobby into a partime business - providing genealogy services.  That gives me some "tools" to use finding living people as well.

Someone was looking for Ladislaus J. Szarek, who I remember as a fun and interesting teacher.  He was born April 5, 1933, lived in Long Beach in the 60s, and lives now in Edmonds, WA.  In 1970 he married a girl named Lynda Davis who was born in 1948.  Sounds like he married a former student?

It costs a couple of bucks to do a full look-up, but I can do that if people really want to get in touch with them.  Anybody looking for someone else???  Hope to see you all in September! -- John MacAllister (formerly Miller)
