I'm really having trouble remembering people. I do remember Tom and a few others. Signed up for Friday night but nothing else. I'll be remembered for my mistake for sure so haven't been to any other reunions.

Sue, though I remember what many of you looked like back then, I have seen the pictures posted of what most look like now; and, I, for one, am glad we will all be wearing name tags - LOL. Please register for the Baech Party. You will have fun. You will probably remember a few at the mixer, Friday night, and develop some old relationships there, you'll be able to mingle at the Beach Party. Either way, I am going to both. You can search me out (I will be using crutches) and that will be a start. Please come to enjoy yourself. Micah.

Bobbie -

I thank you for letting me know that I have completed everything. I wasn't sure. I want to tell the whole of our classmates what a great help and support, you and the rest of the Committee have been, in addition to all of our classmates who have wished me well during this first surgery period. Because of your encouragement, in particular, I have pulled out all the stops to attend. I have been looking forward to this for many years, not knowing that there had been intermediate reunions. Thank you so very much for that support - you, Michael, John and Butch. AND all the rest of those who have wished me well. Micah.

So here ia a question to the " El Torito" reunion crowd.  Will you still be holding the event this year?  If so, and I am still in the area, I will try my best to attend and extend the "party".

Mitch,   Yes the  SAVANNA ANNUAL HAPPY HOUR will take place & I will continue to have this EVERY YEAR, The FIRST FRIDAY  of EVERY OCTOBER at EL TORITOS  in YORBA LINDA.  I started this 25yrs ago,  This is my baby, I worked hard for the 1st 3/5 yrs calling everyone, regardless of the year, I must say the first couple of years it was mostly 63/64/65/66 classes as that was who I knew. Then it took off by word of mouth with everyone , brothers, sisters, cousins, neighbors even the classes that were students young enough to be our children.  what a FUN RUN it has been.  I truely hope it continues after me , but all thing pass. El Toritoes has been terriffic to us, each year I call they reserve the Patio for us, no charge !!!!    I have been quite on the site  as not to step on the reunions toes, BUT the word is out .  SO YES please come by, bring others , I have name tags , we put the name, yr graudated so the badge is on !!!! Hope to see you there.  Darla

Ok. I signed up for the beach party. This should be a blast. I will have to start studying the annual pictures. I was pretty shy unless I knew you. Still can't talk in front of people and get nervous around a crowd. But here goes.

I'm really glad you jumped in and signed up for the Beach Party.  I promise we won't force you to make a speech.  And remember, we're all 50 years wiser not older) than we were, so we'll have a lot to talk about!

Mike: Jewish people didn't kill Jesus. We all did because of our sins! Thanks for taking a stand for your faith. I too am a believer and Jesus is my best Friend. 58 years ago I gave my heart to Him. As a human I have not always lived the life as I should have, but the last 13 years I have been clinging to my faith as never before. My life was shattered by a divorce I did not want or felt God wanted for my life. But sometimes life sucks!!! These past years God has taken my broken vessel and has pieced me back into His vessel. The Bible says we will be rejected because of our faith in Jesus. You are anointed. This earth is not our HOME. smiley

Micah, when I made that last sweeping post about how prejudices affect all of us it was specifically not directed at you. When I talked about trading places it was really directed to the world at large. We each and all of us have things we have learned throughout our lives and that includes our personal prejudices. No matter that I do not fully understand American "race" prejudices to this day, it does not mean I have no prejudices. They are merely different ones and no matter what you do, realizing that is a fact is the beginning of eliminating them in your actions.

Although I live in the heart of the bible belt, I do not have any strong religious beliefs. My neighbors would find that a bit astounding, based on their own prejudices. It is yet another area where we are all free to think for ourselves. I personally find the Jews for Christ a bit strange because somehow, considering typical jewish beliefs, the messiah has not yet come. I have never really studied the belief set but it just strikes me as strange. It might be much less strange if I took the time to understand it, but I have no strong religious beliefs so apparent inconsistencies don't bother me much.

It happened again. My mouse moved and wiped out my comment to Gordon and the beginning of my comment to Anita. I will try for a third time. Only, I will take both my comments to the private side. For whatever reason, it is deemed that my messages should be sent privately - maybe due to the content. ????? Micah. See you there Gordon and Anita. Micah.

Steve Braden

This is for those classmates who have yet to decide whether to come or not. Do you know what the biggest decision made by people today is?  It is INDECISION...deciding not to decide. Most people spend their lives thinking about thinking and don't really move forward.  There is only one 50th Class Reunion and I assure you that this event will be one for the memory books. Yes, you can buy pictures of the event, if you chose not to come but you will not be able to experience the joy of getting to reconnect with old classmates and actually realizing, as I have, how few people you actually really knew. In fact, very few people really knew themselves in high school and look at how much we have learned and grown in the last 50 years. Again, I want to urge you to make the decision to join this event and don't live on the "someday isle" of "some day I will go do this or that." We only are given one life to live and I hope and pray you will chose to join us. Our lives are no longer about our achievements or accomplishments but it is about giving and sharing our experiences to help others. Hope to see you there on September 25th and/or September 26th.

Michael, I had to retire from the fire sword gig. The plastic surgery was getting too expensive.

I am however going to "GET MY RED ON!'

So no one knows about Mr. Szarek? Where he went, is he still with us?

Maybe I'm not reading the right forum section??

I am trying to get to the reunion activities. I live in NYC and I am still teaching

college. My fall schedule doesn't look favorable, but I am negotiating

with a colleague on a class switch that might make it possible. Are those Rebel

Tee shirts available to buy?

Will,

This is probably the best place to put out the inquiry on Mr. Szarek.  I know about 3 of us mentioned him in our profiles.  "What's New and Messages" might be another place to post a plea for information.  Did you receive the private email I sent you awhile back?  Click on Message Center under Member Functions.

Cheers!

Will,

Did you get the private email I sent you a week ago regarding Mr. Szarek?  I have not received a response as yet from the email I sent him.  The search engine I used may not be the most up-to-date with regard to current addresses, but I tried.

Does anyone have any information on Mr. Doug Hastings?  American Gov teacher, track coach.

08/01/15 02:01 PM #72

Linda Wonn (Carpenter)

Hi Mitch,

I tried to track down several of our teachers and found most of them deceased. (Mr. Jeter, Mr. Reil, Mr. Brandt, etc). I never did find Mr. Hastings whom I believe was in his late 20's or early 30's when he taught our class. Never did find an obituary for him either. Perhaps Bobbie would have more luck. She is a true detective and found many classmates that the rest of us couldn't locate.

See you soon.

Linda

Thanks Linda,  not really that important, just wondering.  I enjoyed his classes and he was very instrumental in helping me in my attempt to become a high hurdler in track.  He had a great sense of humor.

Yes, I had him for government and loved his sense of humor. He was one of my favorite teachers though Mr. Jeter topped the list. I was acutally very surprised that I couldn't find him. I found a plethora of Doug Hastings but none were the right age. So unless he was a lot older (he couldn't have been over 30 he, could he?) or left the country he seems to have disappeared.

If I remember, this was his first teaching job, so I feel he was pretty young.  Agree with you on Mr. Jeter, #1 in the school.  Thanks for checking this out.  Looking forward to seeing you in a few weeks.

I think Steve Braden got it right. Failing to take action is a choice, maybe you could call it an action. When any opportunity presents itself you either do something with it or, by your inaction, you fail to do anything with it. If you take no action you have chosen, by default, not to participate. I hope that each of us takes a positive action with this reunion. If you choose not to attend, make that a conscious choice, not just a failure on your part to act.

I have yet to decide about attending myself partly because I have an MRI scheduled about 3 weeks before the reunion to decide whether I need an aortal stint. I am leaning toward attending, and actually riding my bike to the event, but if I must get that stint installed I will not likely be ready to attend that soon afterward. Reality sneaks up on all of us doesn't it.
