Tomorrow is Veteran's Day.  Many of the class of '65 served and some are no longer with us. Take a minute to remember.

Great Post Greg.  Something for all of us to spend time with in reflection.

Thanks so much for expressing appreciation for the service of our veterans. I am proud to have served my country at a time when it was not popular - Vietnam. It is wonderful to see the way veterans are recognized today and on Sundays at church there are fewer and fewer people who have served. I am also proud of our oldest son, Matt, who is a commander in the U.S. Coast Guard and has served for 19 years. Let me close by asking everyone to support our new President, regardless of your political perspective, so we can come together. United we stand and divided we fall. Happy Veterans Day! God bless our citizens and our great country. "Class of '65, Keeping Rebel Tradition Alive."

Wonderful post on this Veteran's Day.  I echo Burke's expression of appreciation for all our classmates who served in Vietnam.  No parades and celebrations when they returned home from that duty.  And pain of the loss of those in that conflict who made the ultimate sacrifice or came back with disabling injuries.  No greater love!  Veteran's Day was originally called Armistice Day as it marked the end of World War I with the Armistice signed in the 11th hour of the 11th day in the 11th month of 1918.

Thanks to all of you who served.  I have been reflecting back on the service of my grandfather Arthur Roach who served in WWI in France and my father John Van Hise who served in the Navy.  I have been organizing my parents house and have found so many amazing memories of their service.  They never spoke of it they just knew they had a job to do and served their country.  My brother John Van Hise Jr. also served in the Navy and his daughter Diedre Van Hise served in the Coast Guard.  We have a rich family history and I am very proud of all of them.  I loved the video and I will be thankful today of all who served for me and everyone.

Thank you, Greg, for your message. It is a beautiful tribute to all Veterans and especially to our Class of '65 Vietnam Veterans. I'm sorry our nation didn't greet you back home from your Vietnam service with cheers and bands playing. We owe you our thanks.

Thank you for your service and sacrifice.

Judy,

Great post recognizing The Greatest Generation and what they did. Not to mention your family's service over the decades.  My father served in the Navy in the South Pacific in 1943-44.  He never talked a lot about it or bragged but his family knew his pride in having served. The Navy was in his blood until the day he died in the 70's.

Even though he was a member of the Class of 64, Anthony (Tony) Brooklier became an "attorney to the stars", his most famous client was Heidi Fleiss (The Hollywood Madam). He was found dead in his Century City Apartment and the police suspect it might have been suicide.

I didn't know him personally but I think most of us knew of him. As I remember he was the star of the Rebel football team and may even have been ASB or Senior Class (64) president.

In other news:

I scared the postman today by going to the door completely naked.
Not sure what scared him more; my naked body or the fact that I knew where he lived.

Being a big football fan, I went to all Rebel home games and I remember Brooklier clearly.

He was very good. Sorry things turned out the way they did for him.

For what ever reason, I had a lot of friends in the class of 64.  Tony was among them and encouraged me to run for Jr. Class Pres, a position he had held.  He went on to lose the SBP to Eiler Ganz and then became Sr. Class Pres.  I saw Tony several times later in life and he was always full of energy and life.  Really sorry to hear of this news.

I will never forget receiving the Senior Class gavel from Tony at the Class of 1964 graduation ceremony. He was always a class individual.  The last time I saw him was at a hotel in Los Angeles the day before the Heidi Fleiss trial.  I was in LA on business and he and I entered the hotel elevator at the same time. We were both surprised and he told me that the day before a trial he would always isolate himself in a hotel room and do his prep work. I am saddened by his loss and it reminds me of something Pastor Rick Warren has said many times, "hurt people hurt people." I understand his son committed suicide on November 2nd of 2015 and so remembering this tragedy may have led him to this place.  May God rest his soul and may God comfort those who loved him. What a shame!

Happy Thanksgiving to all the members of the Class of '65 and their families

A young man named John received a parrot as a gift. The parrot had a bad attitude and an even worse vocabulary. Every word out of the bird's mouth was rude, obnoxious and laced with profanity. John tried and tried to change the bird's attitude by consistently saying only polite words, playing soft music and anything else he could think of to "clean up" the bird's vocabulary. Finally, John was fed up and he yelled at the parrot.
The parrot yelled back.
John shook the parrot and the parrot got angrier and even ruder. John, in desperation, threw up his hand, grabbed the bird and put him in the freezer. For a few minutes the parrot squawked and kicked and screamed. Then suddenly there was total quiet. Not a peep was heard for over a minute.
Fearing that he'd hurt the parrot, John quickly opened the door to the freezer.
The parrot calmly stepped out onto John's outstretched arms and said "I believe I may have offended you with my rude language and actions. I'm sincerely remorseful for my inappropriate transgressions and I fully intend to do everything I can to correct my rude and unforgivable behavior."
John was stunned at the change in the bird's attitude. As he was about to ask the parrot what had made such a dramatic change in his behavior, the bird continued, "May I ask what the turkey did?"'

From our classmate Fuzzy

The guy was speeding down the road and got pulled over by a state trooper. The trooper asked, "Do you have any idea how fast you were going?" The driver looked at the trooper and asked, "Do you see the woman sitting in the passenger seat?" The trooper replied, "Yes." "That's my wife," the driver said to the trooper. "Do you see the woman sitting in the back seat?" The trooper answered, "Yes." "That's my mother-in-law. She lives with us. They just had a big spat, and SHE, the mother-in-law, told us she was moving out. I'm trying to get them home before they make up!" The trooper wrote him just a warning---and then gave him an escort home---lights flashing!

Happy Thanksgiving to all Rebels across the country.

This past week I received a "Thank You" note from Alma Rodrigues, one of our current Savanna students. Alma really wanted to play water polo last year, but she couldn't.  Her family didn't have the money to purchase one of Savanna's water polo suits.  This year the staff at Savanna applied to the Class of '65 Legacy Fund for a suit for Alma.  Her dream of being one of the kids on the water polo team has been fulfilled.

This gift to Alma is exactly what the Legacy Fund was established to accomplish.  We have funded kids to enable them to participate in many school activities, attendance on field trips, shoes, pieces of school uniforms, and more.  None of these gifts was large, but they were enough to accomplish our goal of inclusion for those kids.

In this season of giving, I appeal to all of you to consider a gift to our Class of '65 Legacy Fund.  Please make checks payable to "Savanna High School" and send them to Doug Bell, 3834 Inverness Way, Livermore, CA, 94551.  Let's see how many more kids we can help.

Wishing you all a happy holiday season.

This reminds me of my gate agent days working at SNA for Air California back in the 70's

I'm sure all airline personnel who come into contact with passengers has had this happen to them. Most have handled it very well & some have handled it brilliantly but an award should go to this airlines gate agent in Denver for being smart and funny, while making her point, when confronted with a passenger who probably deserved to fly as cargo. A crowded flight was cancelled. A single agent was re booking a long line of inconvenienced travelers. Suddenly an angry passenger ...pushed his way to the desk. He slapped his ticket on the counter and said "I HAVE to be on this flight and it has to be FIRST CLASS." The agent replied, "I am sorry, sir. I'll be happy to try to help you, but I've got to help these folks first, and I'm sure we'll be able to work something out." The passenger was unimpressed. He asked loudly, so that the passengers behind him could hear, "DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA WHO I AM?" Without hesitating, the agent smiled and grabbed her public address microphone, "May I have your attention please, " she began, her voice heard clearly throughout the terminal. "We have a passenger here at Gate 14 WHO DOES NOT KNOW WHO HE IS. If anyone can help him find his identity, please come to Gate 14." With the folks behind him in line laughing hysterically, the man glared at the agent, gritted his teeth and swore "F*** You!" Without flinching, she smiled and said, "I'm sorry sir, but you'll have to get in line for that to

You know we've officially entered the Christmas season because Costco is clearing out their Christmas merchandise already and bringing in the stuff for spring.

There are Christmas ads and there are spirit of Christmas ads. I thought this video was a good example of the latter.
