Prostate and breast cancer are the most talked-about cancers. But more than 15,000 people die each year from the various types of skin cancer.
I have had five skin cancers surgically removed. All were basal cell (about 2,000 deaths a year). Three were on my face and two on my back. I was never much of a sun worshiper when I was young but according to my doctor, no one is immune.
Now I'm on a six-month schedule of check-ups. Like most other cancers early detection is crucial.
