HOW THE INTERNET STARTED ACCORDING TO THE BIBLE
Please do not Google or check with Snopes. They will lie to you.
In ancient Israel, it came to pass that a trader by the name of Abraham Com did take unto himself a healthy young wife by the name of Dorothy. And Dot Com was a comely woman, large of breast, broad of shoulder and long of leg. Indeed, she was often called Amazon Dot Com.
And she said unto Abraham, her husband, "Why dost thou travel so far from town to town with thy goods when thou canst trade without ever leaving thy tent?"
And Abraham did look at her as though she were several saddle bags short of a camel load, but simply said, "How, dear?"
And Dot replied, "I will place drums in all the towns and drums in between to send messages saying what you have for sale, and they will reply telling you who hath the best price. The sale can be made on the drums and delivery made by Uriah's Pony Stable (UPS)."
Abraham thought long and decided he would let Dot have her way with the drums. And the drums rang out and were an immediate success. Abraham sold all the goods he had at the top price, without ever having to move from his tent.
To prevent neighboring countries from overhearing what the drums were saying, Dot devised a system that only she and the drummers knew. It was known as Must Send Drum Over Sound (MSDOS), and she also developed a language to transmit ideas and pictures - Hebrew to the People (HTTP).
And the young men did take to Dot Com's trading as doth the greedy horsefly take to camel dung. They were called Nomadic Ecclesiastical Rich Dominican Sybarites, or NERDS. And lo, the land was so feverish with joy at the new riches and the deafening sound of drums that no one noticed that the real riches were going to that enterprising drum dealer, Brother William of Gates, who bought off every drum maker in the land. Indeed he did insist on drums to be made that would work only with Brother Gates' drumheads and drumsticks.
And Dot did say, "Oh, Abraham, what we have started is being taken over by others." And Abraham looked out over the Bay of Ezekiel, or eBay as it came to be known. He said, "We need a name that reflects what we are."
And Dot replied, "Young Ambitious Hebrew Owner Operators." "YAHOO," said Abraham. And because it was Dot's idea, they named it YAHOO Dot Com.
Abraham's cousin, Joshua, being the young Gregarious Energetic Educated Kid (GEEK) that he was, soon started using Dot's drums to locate things around the countryside.
It soon became known as God's Own Official Guide to Locating Everything (GOOGLE).
That is how it all began. And that's the truth! You can't make this stuff up!

Another great "reunion-reunion" last night for multi-class Rebels. Looking forward to next year, hopefully, more 65ers will join us.

Your best post to date.  Enjoyed your creative writing.  Must have taken hours of research.

Thanks, MItch but I can't take author credit. I just like sharing things that are cleverly written. Glad you enjoy it.

Thanks, Jerry always good to see you. Looking forward to golf at Dad Miller on the 22nd

Kind of having a bit of fun.  Regardless you found/posted a great piece.  Your only issue, VP Gore is opening a slander suit against you.  Remember. He invented the Internet.

This is what we who are aged 70 or 80 years plus, can look forward to. This is something that happened at an assisted living center.
The people who lived there had small apartments, but they all ate at a central cafeteria. One morning one of the residents didn't show up for breakfast so my wife went upstairs and knocked on his door to see if everything was OK. She could hear him through the door and he said that he was running late and would be down shortly, so she went back to the dining area.
An hour later he still hadn't arrived, so she went back up towards his room, but found him on the stairs. He was coming down the stairs but was having a hard time. He had a death grip on the hand rail and seemed to have trouble getting his legs to work right.
She told him she was going to call an ambulance, but he told her no, he wasn't in any pain and just wanted to have his breakfast. So, she helped him the rest of the way down the stairs and he had his breakfast.
When he tried to return to his room, he was completely unable to get up even the first stair step, so they called an ambulance for him.
A couple of hours later she called the hospital to see how he was doing. The receptionist there said he was fine, he just had both of his legs in one side of his boxer shorts.
I'm sending this to my children so that they don't sell the house before they know all the facts.

Thanks Mitch, I'll keep an eye out for the Gore process server.

On a lighter note!

As I get older I find myself thinking about the strangest things: The only thing scarier than finding extraterrestrial alien life on another planet would be to find other humans on another planet.

I couldn't make Jerry's monthly breakfast but I came up with another fun idea: "Right before I die, I'm going to swallow a bag of popcorn kernels. My cremation is going to be epic."

Hi and happy holidays, classmates.  It's been awhile since I've inflicted you with a Mike's Top Ten generic movie list.  So I figure it's about time.  For your entertainment and, one hopes, your edification, here are my top ten Date movies.  It's weighted to our era, of course.  Perhaps a classmate or two sealed the deal for wedded bliss at one of these.  (Or maybe not!):

  • Un Homme et une Femme (A Man and a Woman) - French with English subtitles
  • Casablanca
  • A Summer Place
  • Barefoot in the Park
  • Now, Voyager
  • The Goodbye Girl
  • Breakfast at Tiffany's
  • Summer of '42
  • Sleepless in Seattle
  • Zeffirelli's Romeo and Juliet

Five honorable mentions:

  • An Affair to Remember
  • Light in the Piazza
  • Thomas Crown Affair - original with Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway
  • Umbrellas of Cherbourg -  French with English subtitles
  • Three Coins in a Fountain

You told me your favorite date movie was Psycho.  Girls would give you a hug when you screamed.

Joan Elliott (Euans)

I found the Elvis Presley movies to be quite romantic especially Blue Hawaii.

Cannot believe you skipped all the Beach Blanket Films.  Ha ha.  Actually on a more current note, Both Sabrina films, and Midnight in Paris.

Actually I like the Sabrina with Julia Ormond, not the older one.

Michael, glad that you and your movie lists have returned as it has been rather quiet here on the forum.  Good to have a new topic of wide interest.  A couple of nominees:

Dr. Zhivago - very long film, but beautiful, if often sad

Hard Days Night - a date film doesn't have to be romantic, this goofy classic is simply a lot of fun and during the height of Beatlemania in the 1960s was probably a pretty good choice for a date film

Richard, great call on A Hard Days Night. It brought back a memory. I took a friend's (another Rebel by the way) girlfriend and her friend to the Highway 39 drive-in to see the movie. I don't think I need to mention what was going through my teenage mind when I agreed to do it.

Do you know all those screaming girls in the movie? Well, I had two of them in my car. How bad was it? One of the girls even admitted she wore rubber underwear in case she had an accident.

I'm pretty sure that was the cause of my current hearing loss.

In case you're looking for a way to get your kids to visit for Christmas, give this strategy a shot:
An old man calls his son and says, "Listen, your mother and I are getting divorced. Forty-five years of misery is enough."
"Dad, what are you talking about?" the son screams.
"We can't stand the sight of each other any longer," he says. "I'm sick of her face, and I'm sick of talking about this, so call your sister and tell her," and he hangs up.
Now, the son is worried. He calls his sister. She says, "Like hell they're getting divorced!" She calls their father immediately. "You're not getting divorced! Don't do another thing. The two of us are flying home tomorrow to talk about this. Until then, don't call a lawyer, don't file a paper. DO YOU HEAR ME?" She hangs up the phone.
The old man turns to his wife and says, "Okay, they're both coming for Christmas and paying their own airfares.

Just wanted to wish everyone a Bonne Annee ( Happy New Year) but more importantly pass along a bit of advice to my male collegues.

I have shared with a few of your privately about my medical condition.   But in reveiwing my thoughts on this, I feel I should share with all the men from our class and the ladies to take care of your male partners.

Late this fall my PSA test jumped substantually.  My GP referred me  to an specialist.  MRI, followed by a scan, followed by a Biopsy has determined I do have a small prostrate cancer.  The Really great news, France has a wonderful health care system.  Both my Docs tell me we caught this so early that I will be cured 100% my mid spring.  My treatment has been some medications to lower my testosterone while we wait to start radiation treatment.  That begins in January.  Should last about 4-6 weeks with several PSA tests taken as we progress.  So my message is to ask all of you to have a PSA test taken each year and monitor the results.  Any level above a 4.0 for our age should be looked at by a specialist.  Stopping it soon prevents any surgery, thus no where near the after effects caused by surgery.   I truely feel blessed to have been able to catch this so early.  Hope if this message helps just one of you, it was worth the time to write.

Best Wishes to all of you.

PS. The meds cause hot flashes and I have become a bit bitchy.  Ha ha/
